Black and White (2002) Review

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 17 June 2015 10:42 (A review of Black and White)

No spoilers!

Went in knowing the film had Robert Carlyle. Thought to myself how can this be an Australian film with Robert Carlyle. Robert's one of the greatest actors of our times.
Then the opening credits begin and I see another name, Charles Dance. My doubts went up and I said to myself, "no way can this be an Australian film."

The movie would seem to begin with innocence but immediately turns out to be a very dark drama. The title of this movie is one of the most perfectly named movie titles of all time. Such is the content in this film and played perfectly by perfect cast. Simply, brilliant performances. Charles Dance is an A class actor, unbeatable. But Robert Carlyle, my goodness is one of the greatest actors of our times. David Ngoombujarra delivers natural performance. And I didn't know Kerry Fox was in this film. She is very beautiful, stunning in some scenes and gave subtle performance. With such talent you will forget that you are even watching a movie.

In the end, I was wrong. The music, the right feel, the perfect atmosphere all brought together a great Australian film. A film that is deeply rooted in "solid rock sacred ground" (Australia). Definitely must watch.

Thank God He Met Lizzie review

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 16 June 2015 08:32 (A review of Thank God He Met Lizzie)

I went to watch this film at an Oz film festival. My reason to go watch was Cate Blanchett. One would assume if a favourite actress plays the title role, then her screen time would be for at least half the film. At least.
I'm not going or planning to spoil anything about the film if you haven't seen it yet. I will however confirm that Cate Blanchett's screen time is lesser than I had imagined. But she looks like she walked out of the sky. Her beauty is second to none, her performance is incomparable and her wedding dress in the film was lucky to be on her. Cate was absolutely, ridiculously beautiful. I cannot stress how beautiful she was in this film. So I thank the director, cinematographer, editor and film making crew for showing me a very beautiful Cate Blanchett from the late 90s. I must've been in 7th grade when the film had come out first. Even if I wasn't entirely happy to watch this film, kind of feels good to have watched this film. Again, I watched for Cate Blanchett.

The film itself is not bad. It is a decent and bold Romantic Drama Tragedy. The film takes it's own time to explore the lives of the characters in detail. The actors were all right. Lead players however, performed very well. I love Cate Blanchett too much, so I could not miss this film.

My L.A. Noire experience (no spoilers)

Posted : 3 years, 4 months ago on 18 January 2014 09:00 (A review of L.A. Noire)

I remember watching the first teaser / trailer of L.A. Noire and was astounded by the richness and quality. I love the 1940s and after watching the Michael Mann film Public Enemies (2009), my hype for L.A.
Noire went out of this world with L.A. Noire's trailer (2010) which came out exactly after a year or some months later. And when the game had been released, it didn't get it right away cause I was in university. However I did buy it for my brother. The Xbox 360 version that had 3 discs. Again after another couple of years later, I finally
played the game in 2013. I took my time and played it slowly. Finished it finally during the 2nd week of January 2014. Man oh man, what an insane ride. What a game! I loved every minute of it, every QUIT & Continue (the retries) to get all them questions right during interrogations. Ha! It is a beautiful game with a brilliant cast and grand environments. If you love California and 1940s then here is a game that will rock your socks off from team bondi and rockstar games.
Why the interrogations aren't boring? Cause the expressions given out by the characters in question are just unbelievably real. Even though expressions are common, the fact remains that each human being is an
individual and it applies to our facial features too, that's what makes the expressions different. The game play itself is generous, without sticking to just one type and still manages to maintain a sense of consistency. Certain levels require certain types of game play ranging from puzzles to action sequences. And I have to talk about the crime scene investigations which is just beyond my appreciation. Some are bold, some easy but brilliant all together. The most important thing that keeps us going in the game is the story. Greatly crafted and put
together really well. Finally, the music. You don't like the 1940s without loving the music from the era. Both the original score and the selection of classic tracks just wants me to say, "these cats got great taste mac." Thank you to every good soul that worked on this game, it
is a beautiful game, a masterpiece. Hope I haven't missed anything out, even if I have I'll make it up with the following line: L.A. Noire is one of the best games ever made, I've ever played and you will ever
play.

Now that I've finally hooked my PS3 to TV with a hdmi cable, I wish I had played it on my PS3. But the Xbox 360 wasn't bad either.

Going the Distance review

Posted : 3 years, 8 months ago on 16 September 2013 10:39 (A review of Going the Distance)

I just watched this movie, it made me happy and it gave me confidence. And secretly I wanted the movie to give me just that feeling heh. Do not worry, wont spoil the ending here. The funny parts are either good or really funny but it is not one of those irritating movies even though some commercial elements do exist but handled well without selling out. A lot of my favourite actors are in this movie and that was a plus too! If you are in a long distance relationship or even if you know there's potential but haven't begun the relationship with your loved one / heart's desire. Go ahead and watch this movie. It will help you keep calm, juice up your battery to keep strong and it is a good movie. Doesn't matter if you are in a relationship or if you like being single. You can still watch this film.

My DANCING EYES experience

Posted : 3 years, 12 months ago on 25 May 2013 11:42 (A review of Dancing Eyes)

I was a kid when this game had come out. I was in Singapore and was given some money to trade them for video game tokens at the arcade. I ran around looking for a free game machine as the arcade was packed. House of dead was free but I wasn't tall enough yet even though I liked horror games and stuff. I turned around to see a man leave a game machine. I ran towards it, didn't even know what game it was, put the token in, slammed that blinking button to begin the game!
They showed a nice lady in clothing first and I thought, "what a pretty girl" (that is correct, no dirty thoughts, I was an innocent kid remember?).
The game begun and I knew I shouldn't touch those worms that were chasing my little character which was a monkey. You keep moving around the grid of the clothing. Mark small areas or if you are smart and can pull it off, you can mark a large area and dispose of that part of the clothing. If a worm or two was within that big or small area that you marked and disposed off, then good for you. More points and less worm trouble. While moving around the 3D clothing grid, you pick up some power-ups! The power-up I remember the most was the one where your character grows larger. That is right, a large monkey running around the clothing grid. By the time I finished the first stage, a crowd gathered behind me. Not sure if I had been playing well or if they were there to make fun of me. But when I did finish the first stage, the screen showed the lady in her underwear. Which I did not expect. The crowd clapped and cheered for me. I was shy to look at the screen as I was surprised and totally forgot that disposing off the grids of clothing was going to... that's when I realized "of course you'll get to see her in her undies."
After the crowd pat me on my back and cheered, I did go on to the next stage and played till third or fourth stages I think after which I didn't want to use the coins on that game alone. Dancing Eyes was such a fun game and I had never seen it person or played it ever since. Except for in 2012 my search brought me to a small download which my friend found for me. Playable through emulator on your laptop or pc. I am now reliving my childhood. And not shy any more.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations review

Posted : 4 years ago on 17 May 2013 01:49 (A review of Assassin's Creed: Revelations)

Here are a few things you should know before you play this game. Get the following games first and finish them.
Assassin's Creed. Assassin's Creed II. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Only then will you be ready for this great finale for Ezio's adventure as an assassin.

When the first game had come out, I was astonished to see a medieval environment in a video game. Medieval times were violent and you can see it. It can be scary at times when you wonder. You play as Desmond who has to access the memories of his ancestor through the Animus. Animus will read the history from one's DNA, thus enabling the user to access the memories of their ancestor. Altair an overconfident assassin who pays the price for being one and must earn the respect of the grandmaster and his fellow assassins, again. The ending will leave your mouth open or your jaw would've fallen off. Ubisoft achieved in establishing the medieval period and interwoven fiction & history & science fiction together successfully. And their smart choice of Jesper Kyd for the music is appreciable as this will bring in fans of the HITMAN series (by I.O. Interactive).

Before you play AC II, you will have to watch a short film produced by Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed Lineage. Your Welcome.
The next game was Assassin's Creed II. A different location and almost 400 years later. The beginning of what would turn out to be one of the greatest times in history, the renaissance period. A child is born into a noble family who earned their nobility. Great story, graphics and beautiful game play. Once again, you will meet with real people from history or they will show up in cameos. The detail is amazing as even rumours from that era will be available for play in the game. This is the beginning of a long journey in the life of Ezio.
Desmond is now becoming stronger. Not bad for a guy who was a bartender who had no idea about his life.
And you as the gamer have no idea what's in store for you.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Ezio's journey continues as you are now on the path of becoming a leader in the brotherhood, recruiting assassins, freeing Rome from the tyranny of the Borgias and trying to understand the secrets protected by the assassin brotherhood which the templars want to steal. You have a lot of things to do and you will learn it is not easy to be an assassin. If the secrets weren't enough in the second game, this game will leave you amazed once again. The story continues and is brilliant, touching the creation of our species itself but I do not wish to spoil any further. Make sure you unlock all the glyphs and solve all the puzzles & tomb raiding in both AC II and this game, AC Brotherhood. For the complete experience. Desmond has now acquired all the skills of his ancestor Ezio. But he is stuck in the animus.

Enter Assassin's Creed: Revelations. When the trailer was released in E3, I must've seen it over 30 times that night. By now I've seen it over 130 times. Then came the GAMESCOM trailer and for the first time I liked dub-step. Finally when I got the game in hand, it was time for "all will be revealed." Older Ezio in Constantinople. Seriously this game is a dream come true. History buff or not. The older the wiser and there is always room for learning no matter how old you are. That is what happens with Ezio. As the grandmaster of the Assassin Brotherhood it is time for the lifelong mission to end. For this Ezio must access the memories of his ancestor Altair. Yes, Desmond will play as Ezio who will play as Altair. What will Ezio learn? Is there anything common between Altair and Ezio? Will the templars grow stronger? Desmond who now possesses the knowledge of Altair and the skills of Ezio, get out of Animus? As a lover of this game series, the ending of this game was highly emotional as the game play experience once again becomes the greatest. Ubisoft knows how to tell a story and this is the conclusion to Ezio's story. Once you've finished this game, you can watch Assassin's Creed Embers, an animated short film about Ezio in his old age.

By now Assassin's Creed III would have been released...

WALL·E review

Posted : 4 years ago on 17 May 2013 12:42 (A review of WALL·E)

This is one of the greatest movies ever made. Breaking barriers, flying beyond live action or animation genres. Pixar picks these risky subjects to make into a film. In the end, all that risk pays off as a fresh film. Who would watch a movie with two robots that don't even exist in the real world? We would, Pixar has made such an amazing film and that's why we would watch it and we should! Creating something out of nothing and making it work and click with audiences around the world. Uniting us in the process as we share our love and appreciation for this beautiful work of art. Deserves every bit of money spent at the theatre and would be great to own the DVD or Blu-ray. The ending will make you cry like a little girl even if you have the ability to control your tears, you will still be choking. There are great supporting characters too. Andrew Stanton and team have put together a timeless masterpiece that will be celebrated through the ages. If any of you haven't seen this film yet, watch it right away.
